Bravo

A proximity tipping app: it uses the phone’s location to show only the people working nearby, so a guest can thank a server, bartender or barista by name, with a tip, without swapping phone numbers or carrying cash.

Bravo — the app flow from nearby to profile to sending a Bravo, in light and dark

The flow, end to end: find the team nearby, open a profile, send a Bravo, see it land.

One set of components and tokens in light and dark, so every screen is built from the same cards, rows and buttons.

What it needed

A tip that names the person, not the table.

A tip on the bill goes into a pool, and the guest never knows who it reached. Bravo’s idea was the opposite, and it was already right: tip only the people standing near you, by name, with the small fee paid by the guest so the worker keeps the whole tip. The app had to make that faster than leaving cash, and make a server’s reputation something they could carry.

What I did

Nearby

The first screen shows the place you are in and who is on shift tonight, by role, so the person who looked after you is one tap away.

Profile

Each profile leads with the person, then their kudos by quality and the notes guests left, so recognition reads as a reputation rather than a number.

Send

Sending a Bravo is one action from the profile, and the screen says plainly that all of it goes to the person, with no fees taken from staff.

Activity

Given and received sit side by side, month by month, so a regular can see where their thanks went and a server can see it arrive.

Themes

Light and dark from the same tokens: the app is used in a dining room at night.

The next step

Building an app people open for ten seconds at a time? I design the one screen that has to work in those ten seconds.
